Aetiket Label Printer - Using with other Programs

Rather than making you type in label data each time, Aetiket Label Printer is able to use the information you store in other programs such as contacts databases or address books to print labels. This help note is organized into two sections: a simple how-to list, and a more detailed step by step discussion, followed by some important details for step 2.

In addition to this help note, you may consult the Excel Help File "Labels.xls" for an example of how to export data from an Excel spreadsheet.

SIMPLE HOW-TO:

Simply described, importing label data from another program can be done as follows:

In the other program:

1. Choose the information you want printed
2. Save the information to a file called: Labels.txt

3. Run Aetiket Label Printer
4. Chose Preferences from the Script Menu
5. Set Import File to Labels.txt
6. In the Setup page, setup the label page
7. Click the Import button

STEP BY STEP:

Steps 1 and 2

These steps are done in the program you use to generate your label data, and therefore are not covered in depth here. Some important details for step 2 can be found at the end of this help page.

Step 3

Double-click on the Aetiket.fp3 icon to open Aetiket Label Printer.

Step 4

In the Setup page, choose Preferences from the Script Menu

Preferences Menu

Step 5

In the Preferences page, set Import File to Labels.txt

Select "Labels.txt" Import File

Return to the Setup page by clicking the Back button.

Step 6

Select Position

In the Setup page, setup the label page by selecting the appropriate Label Type, Row, and Column. The number of Labels to Print doesn't need to be selected, as Aetiket Label Printer determines the appropriate number of labels to print automatically based on the number of labels imported.

Step 7

Click the Import button

DETAILS FOR STEP 2:

The only tricky part of the above may be step 2. Below, I describe in more detail what needs to be done to make it all work without a hitch.

File Name:
The information or data you want as labels needs to be saved to a text file called Labels.txt

File Location:
The text file also needs to be in the same folder or directory as Aetiket Label Printer.

Tab-Separated Format:
For Aetiket Label Printer to import your data, the data must be saved in a format called tab-separated or tab-delimited. The option to save data as tab-separated is usually available in programs when you save. As the name suggests, tab-separated files contains the data you want to print out separated by tabs. This makes it easy for FileMaker Pro to figure out where one label ends and where the next one begins.

For users of Microsoft Excel, an Excel file Sheet.xls is included with the Aetiket Label Printer software. This file shows a simple example of how label data can be created from cells in a spreadsheet and exported to Labels.txt for use by Aetiket Label Printer.
